What would you suggest the best way to start off in 3d character modelling, from basic with tutorials? Thanks!?

Any website links to good software to use to start off with, tutorial links, anything from concept and design to the modelling. I would very much like to start off in a new hobby to learn and skill up in!What would you suggest the best way to start off in 3d character modelling, from basic with tutorials? Thanks!?
Okay: Poser and Daz Studio are POSING programs, and will not allow you to create your own content (that is, not without a third party app). You have to download/buy pre-built content.

To create your own 3d characters, you need a 3d modelling app. There are many, and as I am sure you are aware of this fact, a great (free) way to get into this field would be Blender. Blender has this reputation that it is hard to learn, but it is actually no more difficult than any of the other (commercial) ones - I have worked in most 3d software myself. I do admit Blender has a non-standard interface, but once you get used to it, one can fly!

Also, a good video tutorial to watch would be the Blender Creature Factory DVD. Download the Blender Creature Factory DVD video tutorial torrent - because it is published under the Creative Commons license, you are allowed to download the dvd legally. This shows the complete process of a high level creature production workflow in Blender, from concept to final compositing, including the modeling and texturing process. It is worth watching the animator's work flow from concept to finished animation to gain valuable insight into the 3d animation process.

However, you may want to show your support and buy the dvd:

The listed books on this page are great too. All the tutorial DVD's listed are legal to download from torrents. The other two tutorial DVD's explain a lot about character animation.

Zbrush is often used to add detail to 3d characters, though it is quite expensive. 3dcoat is a more inexpensive option. Blender does support this method of adding detail too, though (less options, though).

Of course, other options open to you are Maya, 3dsMax, Cinema4d, Lightwave, XSI and Houdini. All cost quite a lot of money - so Blender is a great way to start your new hobby at no cost whatsoever. What would you suggest the best way to start off in 3d character modelling, from basic with tutorials? Poser 7 is great for 3D modeling. Or if you're looking for free stuff, DAZ Studio is a free download. The actual characters aren't cheap, but they're actual bases you can make clothes with and stuff.
